This week let's talk about Bullfighting!
Bullfighting has been part of Spanish culture for as long as one can recall. The Bull is a symbol of Spain and continues to be used to promote the country. However, Bullfighting is not without its controversy. Increasingly more and more people are opposing the practice - both in Spain and abroad.
Putting this aside for a moment, let's talk about how one should explain Bullfighting to an outsider. To someone who knows nothing about the practice. What is the meaning of the fight between man and beast? Is it a 'blood sport' or an artful dance? Or both? Does the Bullring capture something that is essentially 'Spanish' - in both the character of the people as well as the culture? Or has it got nothing to do with this?
