I'm writing to remind you of the topic we chose for next Monday: Names.
We could discuss naming conventions generally and then more specifically your own name. Who named you? Why did he or she choose that name? Does it have a meaning? How do you feel about it? Have you ever wished for a different name? If so, why? Do you have a nickname, a pet name, a stage name or a pen name?
Here is a video clip from the Graham Norton show that you might find interesting. Graham asks Meryl Streep how she got her name and he discusses Nicole Kidman's Hawaiian name.
Listen for the expression "to be named after someone" and "birth name" and "pet name."
One interesting about this little clip is that you have an excellent example of British English, American English and Australian English. Can you hear the differences?
