With human fertility rates declining rapidly as a consequence of environmental contamination and chemical products mixed into our food chain there are numerous other options for people who want to become parents. Adoption, fostering, fertility treatment and even renting a womb are among the possibilities. Added to that the possibility of choosing everything from eye colour to gender and even the elimination of degenerative hereditary diseases are becoming a reality using DNA manipulative techniques. Is this a bright future or a horrifying Brave New World (Aldous Huxley)?
